At present, the creation of favorable investment climate, improvement of tools for attracting foreign and local investors and the promotion of domestic products to increase economic competitiveness are fundamental priorities in the Ministry’s work. The development, promotion and implementation of a comprehensive economic policy on attracting investments and fostering exports is in close connection with the economic growth based on innovations and investments. The contribution of investments in increasing the companies’ competitiveness, facilitating the technological transfer, creating new jobs and stimulating foreign trade were the key elements considered when developing and implementing policies on attracting investments and fostering exports.
In the first 9 months of 2013, direct foreign investments amounting to USD 174.9 million were attracted. According to data published by the National Bank of Moldova, in 2003-2008, the net flow of direct foreign investments was ascendant, growing from USD 73.8 million to USD 711.5 million. The negative impact of the 2009 global financial crisis considerably diminished the flow of direct foreign investments to USD 145.3 million, followed by a moderate growth in the following 2 years. In the first 9 months of 2013, direct foreign investments attracted in the national economy (net value) amounted to USD 174.9 million (3% of the GDP), growing by about 35.3% as compared to the similar period of 2012.
In addition, 33 events were organized and attended in 2013 with a view to promote the national image in the country and abroad. These events focused on presenting investment opportunities to foreign businesses and promoting national products and services thus facilitating the interaction and bilateral cooperation with the other states.
Another promotion event that is being prepared is the World Exhibition “Milano 2015”. Within May 1 – October 31, 2015, the Republic of Moldova will take part in EXPO Milano 2015, Italian Republic. This is a global event that will demonstrate the participants’ traditions, creativity and innovations in the agro-food field. To ensure the successful participation in this event, a brainstorming was held in the reporting period with regard to the construction of the Moldovan pavilion at the World Exhibition “Milano 2015”, as a result of which the winner was appointed. In addition, on October 3-4, the representatives of the CIE SA “Moldexpo” took part in the 3rd edition of the International Meeting of exhibition participants to coordinate the technical aspects of construction and design of the national pavilion. This measure allows promoting Moldovan cultural, scientific and technological values serving as an international communication channel.
